There are several scholarship programs for both undergraduates and postgraduates in Nigeria, these scholarships are sponsored by different companies in Nigeria like Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, NNPC etc. Most of these scholarship programs only sponsor you to study within Nigeria. FSB BIlateral educational agreement scholarships

The Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) department of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) gives out scholarship Awards between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governments of Countries that have signed the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) with Nigeria.

The countries that are in Bilateral Education Agreements (BEA) with Nigeria include;

This scholarship programme is eligible for undergraduate, Masters and PhD studies. All the above-listed countries are non-English speaking. The scholars are made to study the languages of these countries except for Hungary.




Eligibility for BEA Scholarship Awards

Undergraduate Scholarship:

As an applicant for the undergraduate scholarship. You must have a minimum qualification of Five (5) As or Bs in  West African Examination Council (WAEC) including English Language and Mathematics and other subjects relevant to your desired course at only one seating. Your O’level certificates must not be older than one (1) year if you intend to study in any of the African countries and two (2) years for any of the European countries. The Age limit for candidates is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 20 years old.

Postgraduate Scholarship:

To be qualified for this scholarship all PhD and Master’s degree applicants must have a First Class or at least Second Class Upper (2:1) master’s degree and First degree.  applicants who are former recipients of study abroad scholarship awards must complete at least two (2) years post qualification or employment practices in Nigeria and must complete N.Y.S.C. or obtain an Exemption Certificate where applicable.

The Age limit for a BEA postgraduate scholarship is 35 years and your certificates should not be older than 5 years.

Is the BEA scholarship fully funded?

As a BEA scholarship recipient, the federal government of Nigeria caters for you they will provide you supplementation allowances of up to $6,000 per annum, and you will also be provided clothing allowance, health insurance and research grants. donor countries’ commitments include tuition fees and accommodation.

SPDC Niger delta postgraduate scholarships

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), operator of the SPDC Joint Venture, organizes the NNPC/SPDC_JV Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship for students in their operational states in the Niger delta which includes Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers states. The main aim of these grant for students in Nigeria is to furnish postgraduates with study opportunities in courses that are applicable to the oil and gas industry for eligible postgraduates in these Niger Delta states.

This programme has been in existence for ten years now and it has afforded over 100 students the opportunity to study at top-rated universities in the United Kingdom with which the SPDC is in partnership. For the 2021 academic year which commenced in September 2021, The SPDC partnered with three universities in the UK which are; Imperial College London, the University of Leeds and the University of Aberdeen.

The SPDC scholarship is fully funded for the one year of your master’s study and it is only applicable to postgraduate students in any of the following courses in any of the 3 above-listed institutions;

  • MSc Geophysics
  • MSc Safety & Reliability Engineering for Oil & Gas

How to apply for the SPDC postgraduate scholarships

  • Firstly, you need to gain admission to any of the 3 universities for any of the qualifying courses.
  • Application forms for these scholarships are only available on the websites of the University of Aberdeen, Imperial College London and the University of Leeds after getting a formal offer of admission from the university.
  • These universities will be in charge of processing the applications and sorting out candidates that will proceed for the interviews with SPDC before being considered for final selection.

Is the SPDC scholarship fully funded?

It is pertinent to note that the SPDC scholarship covers tuition fees, one economy return-flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK and a fixed amount for living expenses only.

Fullbright Foreign student program in the USA

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is a program designed by the United state government to help graduate students, young professionals and artists, from other countries to study and carry out research in the United States. The Program exists in more than 160 countries in the world. They award scholarships to over 4,000 international students every year.

The binational Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies oversees this scholarship program. All Foreign Student Program applications are processed by these offices. The eligibility for Fullbright scholarships varies depending on your country.

Eligible courses

Science, engineering, technology, arts, journalism/public relations/media studies, agriculture/food science, economics, environmental science, international relations, political science, public administration/policy, public health, and tourism.

Funding for the Fullbright scholarships

The Fullbright scholarship grant covers your return flight ticket to the U.S. Accommodation allowance, monthly living costs, books and research allowance, and computer allowance. The scholarship also covers basic university health insurance as primary insurance coverage and the Fulbright ASPE health benefit as secondary coverage.

Reach Oxford scholarship to study abroad for Nigerian students

Reach oxford scholarship, formerly known as Oxford Student Scholarships, awards scholarships annually to students from low-income countries who cannot study for a degree in their home countries, for political or financial reasons, or due to lack of educational facilities.

Eligibility for Reach Oxford scholarships

To be eligible for this scholarship you must be a citizen of any country that receive official development assistance from the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Nigeria is one of these countries so as a Nigerian student you can apply for this scholarship to study abroad. You can get a scholarship to study any course at oxford University except medicine and you must be willing to return to your home country after your studies.

Funding for the Reach Oxford scholarships

As a Reach oxford scholarship recipient, oxford covers your tuition fees, living costs and one return flight ticket every year. This lasts for 3-4 years depending on your course of study.

University of Westminster undergraduate scholarships

The University of Westminster in the United kingdom annually awards special fully-funded scholarships to students in developing countries with Black and Mixed Black ethnic backgrounds. The scholarship grant is worth up to $6,000 per year


To be eligible for this scholarship you must have gained admission to study for a full-time undergraduate degree at the University of Westminster.

Your household Income should not be more than £25,000 ($30,800) as assessed by the Student Loans Company. Therefore Students must give consent to share their household income information with the University of Westminster.
