Basically, there are several grants for students in Nigeria sponsored by the government and other institutions. These grants are available for Nigeria’s O-level, undergraduate, and postgraduate students.

The Jim Ovia Scholars Program started in 1998. It is fully sponsored by Mr Jim Ovia to give financial support to outstanding students in Nigeria. This scholarship program was formerly known as the MUSTE scholarship and qualified candidates are usually given grants for their undergraduate study throughout the duration of their program, and this grant includes tuition fees and maintenance allowances. The scheme offers an average of 100 opportunities each year for new applicants while renewing applicants are supported annually, conditional on meeting all eligible requirements of the scholarship. Since October 2010, Mr Ovia has been investing over 100 Million Naira in the program to support 1500 beneficiaries.
While establishing the Jim Ovia Scholarship, Mr Ovia’s aim was to create a network of future leaders within Nigeria who can compete globally with their peers, bring new ideas, and creativity and are committed to improving people’s lives in their respective communities. Furthermore, this Scholarship is awarded on the basis of personal intellectual ability, leadership capability and a desire to use your knowledge to contribute to society throughout Nigeria by providing service to your community and applying your talent and knowledge to improve the lives of others. Eligibility and Requirements
The scholarship is open to all potential Nigerian students studying in a Nigerian institution. One hundred (100) awardees are selected each year from a pool of eligible applicants. However, scholarships are awarded based on your personal intellectual ability, also leadership capability and desire to contribute to society at large to improve the lives of others.
Every year, The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and TotalEnergies Upstream Companies in Nigeria (TUCN), in partnership with their venture partners, give out scholarship grants to deserving Nigerian students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In addition, this scholarship program aims to promote academic excellence and quality manpower development in the Country.
